So what is a Prismacolor painting?

Simply put, a Prismacolor painting is a work of art, made using the highest quality Prismacolor colored pencils.

colored pencil portraits are unsurpassed for their richness in color and glowing finish.

Prismacolors are not ordinary colored pencils, they come in over 125 different colors and can be blended unlike other hard lead pencils. Prismacolors have a strong wax base that glides - much like paint which is why, worldwide these works of art are referred to as "paintings."

Translucent, one coat is added on top of another, to achieve the correct skin tone, hair color, etc. One face can have as many as 20 layers of color! Add the hair and eyes, and you've got many different colors glowing!

When finished - the entire painting is softly polished one tiny section at a time, then sprayed 3-5 times to add a beautiful finish and insure permanency. Each painting takes 40-60 hours (one subject), and is an investment I'm sure you will agree, is well worth the cost.

My work is defined and unique by my careful attention to detail and love of color. If necessary, and where it will add to the finished art, tiny touches of acrylic, gouche, or 14kt. metallic are added.
